San Francisco (44-57) slugger Barry Bonds hit home run number 754 Friday, a solo shot in the first inning in a 12-10 slugfest over the Florida Marlins (48-56). Bonds is now just 1 home run shy of tying Hank Aaron’s all-time mark of 755. In the first inning, Bonds launched a 2-1 changeup off rookie Rick Vanden Hurk (3-2) over the centerfield wall. The left-fielder finished the game walking the next four times up.
For the season, Bonds is hitting .281 with 20 home runs, 49 RBI and a major league-leading 104 walks. Bonds has Saturday and Sunday to chase the record at home; then, he will head to SoCal for a 6-game road trip.

35 – The number of hits the Mets (16) and Dodgers (19) combined for, as New York (53-42) beat Los Angeles (54-42) in a 13-9 slugfest Thursday. All 16 starting position players recorded at least one hit, and 12 of them had a multi-hit game. Tom Glavine (8-6) and Derek Lowe (8-9) both turned in their shortest and worst outings of the year, as neither starter was on the mound by the fourth inning. It was New York’s first win against the Dodgers in four tries this season, winning the opener of a four-game series in L.A.

San Francisco (39-54) slugger Barry Bonds hit home runs 752 and 753 Thursday, a solo shot in the second inning and a three-run shot in the seventh in a 9-8 loss to the Chicago Cubs (50-44). Bonds is now just 2 shy of tying Hank Aaron’s all-time mark of 755. In the second inning, Bonds launched the first pitch off Ted Lilly (10-4) over the right-field bleachers and out of Wrigley Field. In the seventh inning and down 9-5, Bonds drove a full-count fastball with two out and two on off Will Ohman (1-4), just onto the center field basket for a three-run shot. The left-fielder finished the game 3 for 3 with 3 runs, 2 homers, 6 RBI and a walk. At current season’s pace, Bonds is expected to tie the record on July 29.
For the season, Bonds is hitting .287 with 19 home runs, 48 RBI and a major league-leading 95 walks.

3 – The number of home runs hit by Texas’ Brad Wilkerson Tuesday, as the Rangers (35-48) cruised past the Los Angels Angels (51-32) 8-3. Wilkerson became the first AL player to hit three home runs in a game this season, joining Chicago’s Alfonso Soriano and Houston’s Carlos Lee to do so in a single game this year. The Rangers first baseman finished the game 3 for 4 with 6 RBI and has now hit 13 home runs for the year.
