Stat of the Day

28 – The scoring margin the New York Mets have attained in the first four games of the season, outscoring their opponents, 31-3. That tied a major league record of a team winning their first four games of the season and allowing no more than one run in each of those games, tying the 1991 Chicago White Sox and 1915 Philadelphia Phillies.

The feat did not come with an easy schedule, as the Mets outscored the defending champion Cardinals in St. Louis in a season-opening three-game series sweep, 20-2. As Atlanta Braves right fielder Jeff Francoeur, who hit a solo shot for the Braves lone run, put it after their 11-1 spanking from the Mets Friday, “If you’re gonna get beat, you might as well get the snot knocked out of you.”
