50 – The number of goals the Ottawa Senators’ Dany Heatley has scored this season, making him just the third player in NHL history to score at least 50 goals in each of his first two seasons with a particular team. With his 50 goals last year, the right winger joins Mike Bossy (53 and 69 goals in 1977-79 with the New York Islanders) and Wayne Gretzky (51 and 55 goals in 1979-1981 with the Edmonton Oilers) as the only players to achieve this feat, although Heatley played his first three seasons with the Atlanta Thrashers before coming over to Ottawa for the 2005-06 season (Bossy and Gretzky both did this as rookies).
He capped off a wonderful season, scoring number 50 in the season finale, as the Senators beat the Boston Bruins 6-3 Saturday. That helped Ottawa retain the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference and gives them home-ice advantage for their first-round series with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Heatley finished second in the league in goals (behind the Tampa Bay Lightning’s Vincent Lecavalier with 52 goals) and fourth in points with 105.
