Fukao’s Fantasy Fallout: Who’s Hot, Who’s Not

By Jason Fukao

Who’s Hot

2B Ian Kinsler – This week’s stats: 4 R, 3 HR, 7 RBI, 0 SB, 2 K, .500 BA

Kinsler is off to a fast start as the everyday 2nd baseman for the Texas Rangers. He hit 14 homers in 120 games last year so his 5 dingers to begin the season shouldn’t be too much of a surprise.

3B Alex Rodriguez – This week’s stats: 8 R, 5 HR, 13 RBI, 0 SB, 3 K, .429 BA

A-Rod went from scapegoat to savior in a week. New York Yankees fans are loving him now and so are fantasy owners who didn’t give up on one of the most prolific hitters of our time.

RP Todd Jones – This week’s stats: 3.1 IP, 0 W, 0 L, 4 S, 3 K, 0.00 ERA, 0.30 WHIP

Fantasy owners who wishfully drafted Joel Zumaya will have to wait a bit longer for him to start racking up saves. Jones was superb this week, saving four games for the Detroit Tigers without giving up a run.

Who’s Not

OF Alfonzo Soriano – This week’s stats: 3 R, 0 HR, 0 RBI, 1 SB, 5 K, .190 BA

It’ll probably take Fonzo some time to adjust to his new surroundings. Plus, he isn’t the only Chicago Cub struggling, as the whole team has not been able to get into an offensive rhythm. Give him some time; he should be okay in that homer-friendly ballpark.

1B Mark Teixeira – This week’s stats: 4 R, 0 HR, 1 RBI, 0 SB, 5 K, .240 BA

Only one RBI for a guy who averaged 122 RBI the last three seasons will not cut it for owners’ content.

SP Brett Myers – This week’s stats: 7.2 IP, 0 W, 2 L, 10 K, 15.26 ERA, 2.35 BA

Myers gave up 6 earned runs to the Florida Marlins earlier in the week and 7 earned runs to the Houston Astros on Friday night. Overall, in three starts his ERA is 9.39 and a WHIP of 1.57.

  1. Teix – Lookin’ like he’ll decrease his numbers further from last year after his career year two years ago.

Myers – I feel like the preseason buzz surrounding this guy was huge. I hate his inconsistency and see him as nothing more than a strikeout pitcher.

  2. And now Myers is a $26 million relief pitcher to work the seventh and eighth innings. Nice!
