Stat of the Day

46 – Russian Nicolai Valuev lost for the first time in his professional career Saturday after winning his first 46 fights with one no-decision. The 7-foot, 323 pounder, with a reach of 85 inches, lost his WBA heavyweight title to Uzbekistan’s Ruslan Chagaev, who calls himself “White Tyson” and gave up 11 inches and 90 pounds to Valuev. Chagaev is now 23-0-1 after winning scores of 117-111 and 115-113 from two judges, with the third calling it 114-114. Valuev comes up just short of Rocky Marciano‘s record of 49 fights at the start of a career without a loss.

  1. Valuev is a big, clumsy oaf who shouldn’t even be in the same sentence as the great Rocky Marciano.

And though Marciano’s streak of 49 straight wins to start a career without a loss is impressive, its is nothing compared to Jimmy Wilde’s run of 101 bouts without a defeat.

  2. Add hairy to the list of adjectives to describe him but gosh, tell me this image alone doesn’t impress: http://www.boxnews.com.ua/photos/599/NikolayValuevEtienne8.jpg
