The first save opportunity for the Atlanta Braves (17-10) since closer Bob Wickman went down with the injury went to Rafael Soriano on Wednesday, who pitched a one-hit 9th for his second save of the season, a 4-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies (12-15).
A day after he blew his second straight save, Wickman went on the disabled list with an upper back injury on Monday. Rehab will consist of deep tissue massage as well as a stretching routine that hopes to have Wickman back in two weeks. The former Cleveland Indians cat is 1-1 with six saves and a 3.97 ERA and 1.85 WHIP.
Fantasy Advice: Jump on your waiver wire and snag Soriano for the Braves’ saves until Wickman comes back. Mike Gonzalez, who pitched a perfect 8th inning to set up Soriano, apparently is still to share closing duties with Soriano so pick him up if you’re desperate for saves.
