Stat of the Day

11 – The number of consecutive wins the Detroit Red Wings have when they could eliminate an opponent in the postseason, the longest streak in NHL history. Two first-period goals by Mikael Samuelsson and 28 saves for Dominik Hasek‘s first shutout of the postseason and 13th of his career led the Red Wings to a 2-o Game 6 victory in San Jose for a 4-2 series win. Three consecutive victories against the Sharks puts Detroit in the Western Conference Finals since the 2001-02 season when they won it all. Top-seeded Detroit meets the 2-seed Anaheim Mighty Ducks, who advanced from a 4-1 series win over the Vancouver Canucks, Friday at 4:30pm PST for Game 1. I’ve got Detroit over Anaheim. Any takers?

In the Eastern Conference Finals, the Ottawa Senators and Buffalo Sabres clash on Thursday at 4pm PST for their Game 1 showdown.
