35 – The number of hits the Mets (16) and Dodgers (19) combined for, as New York (53-42) beat Los Angeles (54-42) in a 13-9 slugfest Thursday. All 16 starting position players recorded at least one hit, and 12 of them had a multi-hit game. Tom Glavine (8-6) and Derek Lowe (8-9) both turned in their shortest and worst outings of the year, as neither starter was on the mound by the fourth inning. It was New York’s first win against the Dodgers in four tries this season, winning the opener of a four-game series in L.A.
