San Francisco (44-57) slugger Barry Bonds hit home run number 754 Friday, a solo shot in the first inning in a 12-10 slugfest over the Florida Marlins (48-56). Bonds is now just 1 home run shy of tying Hank Aaron’s all-time mark of 755. In the first inning, Bonds launched a 2-1 changeup off rookie Rick Vanden Hurk (3-2) over the centerfield wall. The left-fielder finished the game walking the next four times up.

For the season, Bonds is hitting .281 with 20 home runs, 49 RBI and a major league-leading 104 walks. Bonds has Saturday and Sunday to chase the record at home; then, he will head to SoCal for a 6-game road trip.
