Barry Bonds 755
Hank Aaron 755
Babe Ruth 714
San Francisco (47-61) slugger Barry Bonds hit home run number 755 Saturday, tying Hank Aaron‘s all-time home run record of 755. Bonds hit an opposite-field home run off of Clay Hensley (1-3) to lead off the second inning in a 3-2 loss in 12 innings to the San Diego Padres (59-50). The left-fielder walked in his next three at-bats before leaving the game.
For the season, Bonds is hitting .272 with 21 home runs, 50 RBI and a major league-leading 113 walks.
Not surprisingly, Bonds has chosen to take Sunday off. The Giants will head back to AT&T Park for a 7-game homestand, and on Monday will face rookie John Lannan (1-0) and the Washington Nationals (50-60). (Interesting tidbit: Lannan was the pitcher who broke the left-handed hitting Chase Utley‘s hand with a pitch in his first major league start on July 26.)
